Air India and Boeing JV commence work
on Thiruvananthapuram MRO facility

Air India and Boeing JV officially commenced civil works on Phase 1 on the proposed USD17.5 million MRO facility, located adjacent to Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. Kerala State Government will grant the carrier land to construct the MRO facility, which is scheduled to take 12 months to complete.

The facility will initially service Air India’s B737-800 aircraft, with plans to service all Boeing aircraft in subsequent phases. It also plans to provide services in the future to other carriers, including foreign companies.

Details of the hanger include a pre-engineered building structure, fireproof paint and insulated walls and roofs. In addition it will feature a concrete apron, a sheet metal section, wheels and brake section, battery charging, oxygen bottling plant and composite repair facility.

Meanwhile, Air India confirmed plans to launch new services to Thiruvananthapuram via Kochi from Mumbai and Delhi by the end of Mar-08.
