After successfully directing ad films, many
directors are directing feature films also. Some of the better known
are Rakesh Mehra Mani Shankar etc. Now, in this series, a new
director, Arjun Sablok, is also involved, who has turned towards
feature films, after many ad films, serials and music videos. As a
director, Arjun Sablok debuted with the film Na Tum Jaano Na Hum,
being made under the banner of P. F. H. Entertainment Limited. A few
days ago, Arjun came to Delhi to promote the film and we took the
opportunity of interviewing him exclusively at Delhi's five star le
Meridien. Here are the main highlights:
Tell us something about this film of yours.
In this film, there is love, pathos and sentiment.
This is totally a love story, which is inspired by my parents’ love
story. I have given the form of a story to their love story.
Like Yash Chopra's film Dil To Pagal Hai,
the characters of your film also give their introduction on screen. Is
this not copying him?
We can't say it is copying but surely we can say it
is inspiration. Because I have worked as his assistant, therefore,
some of his style has rubbed off on me. The reason for the
introduction by the characters on screen is that I wanted them to
create a relationship with the viewers directly.
How is your film different from other triangular
love stories?
My film is different from other films because, in
this, all three characters have a common dream. The viewers will,
after watching the film, see that what is different.
Why did you choose music director Rajesh Roshan?
Rajesh Roshan is very good at giving melodious
music. I like his music and so I chose him.
Say something about the story of film?
Na Tum Jaano... is the love story of Akshay, Rahul
and Esha. All three are waiting to come across their sweetheart; who
will meet whom and when, only God knows.
Why specifically did you choose Hrithik, Saif and
Esha for your film?
Rahul's character fits Hrithik and as his heroine I
didn't find any one more beautiful than Esha. As far as Saif is
concerned, I liked his playful and mischievous style.
At this time in the filmi world patriotic films are
ruling. Will viewers like your love story?
Yes, why not. Films based on love have always been
liked by the viewers, whether it is DDLJ or Kucch Kucch Hota Hai
or Maine Pyaar Kiya.
Is it true you had wanted to become a hero and
became director instead?
Yes, I came to Bombay to become a hero. I believed
that I could become a good actor only when I have technical knowledge
about films. But when I joined as a worker behind the screen, then I
realised that I had found my niche.
You have also produced TV films and serials. How
was the transition from the small screen to the big screen?
The only difference between the small screen and
the big screen is that on the former, the work is at a smaller level
than on the big screen.
Any memorable moments?
Producing Lata Didi's famous music video E Mere
Watan Ke Logon is a memorable moment for me, which I will never
forget.
What did you feel was so unique in your parents'
love story that you based this film on it?
My parents' love towards each other, that bond,
that trust on each other, inspired me to make a love story, which
would enthrall the viewers mind and heart.
How was your experience of making a film with
Pantaloon?
It was a very good. They gave me all facilities and
full freedom to make the film; we didn't compromise on any point.
Hopefully, viewers will definitely like this film.
