  Microbial properties of camel’s milk

The Zayed Complex for Herbal Research and Traditional Medicine is on the verge of a breakthrough in producing an anti-microbial vaccine from camel’s milk. The project, which is in the experimental stages, is being jointly conducted by the Zayed Complex and an American team of experts, according to a report in the Gulf News. Efforts are being made to produce a vaccine using the plasma of camel’s milk. The vaccine will be first tested on camels that will be injected with the vaccine as a test of its efficacy. The Zayed Complex earlier carried out several experiments and scientific studies on the properties of camel’s milk and its products as well as its role in strengthening the immune system of the human body. These studies showed that camel milk has immunity components such as IGG molecules that have proved effective in killing microbial diseases, both viral and bacterial. If the experiment proves to be a success, the Complex will register a patent. Several studies were conducted by the Complex in cooperation with the Camel Centre in Suweihan under the supervision of Professor Larry Looms from Maryland, U.S.A., Dr. Mazen Ali Naji, Director General of the Complex, said the results of the studies and scientific research conducted earlier by a British university prompted specialists in this field to conduct further studies. It also prompted biologists to study the importance of camel milk and its protein composition and focus on its protective benefits.

It is a well-known fact that camel’s milk is a rich food due to its nutritious elements, said Dr. Naji, and its richness in proteins had prompted the Zayed Complex to carry out such studies. The unique composition of camel’s milk has been proved to fortify the immunity system. It has a heavy chain of amino acids and IGG molecules, said Dr. Naji. Regarding protective proteins, camel milk contains high levels of lactoferrin and peptidoglycan that have proved effective in protecting the human body against various diseases. Dr. Naji pointed out that camel’s milk has also proved effective in treating some types of cancer.
