   Sound of “Cultural Patriotism”

Kailashpati Mishra, the Governor of Gujarat, is well known as a committee worker of the Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh and, one of the major architects of the BJP movement in Bihar. He is also a popular Hindi poet of "cultural patriotism" as he would like to call his poetic works. Some of his ardent friends and admirers were present at the combined release of his poetic collection in Hindi entitled "Chetna Ke Swar" and four cassettes in which his poetry has been set to music by Niharika in her melodious voice. The were titled Chetna Ke Swar, Matri Vandana, Path Pradarshan and Nirmal Dhara. The book and the cassettes were distributed by the Rashtriya Advertising from Jhandewalan in New Delhi.

Among the friends and admirers of Kailashpati Mishra present during the release ceremony at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi were BJP veteran Dr. C. P. Thakur and well-known rebel Congress leader Sharad Pawar.

A poet’s best identity is his poetic word. One can see from the poems that they are sounds of patriotism, steeped in Indian culture and thought. In a brief personal statement, the poet declared: "I am not a poet. Whatever thought gets churned in my mind has taken the shape of some poems which have seen the light of publication in this selection."

One cannot dismiss his poetry either as superficial or without a strong flavour of patriotism; or an ideological message. The poet exhorts the people to sing the Geeta and reminds young Indians that the future is theirs and to follow the true path, one must learn to identify the enemies which he would encounter during the journey.

Author: K. R. Wadhwaney
Price: Rs. 195
Pages: 287

This book is a complete summary of matches with scores, inside stories, organisational lapses and interesting scandals as well as controversies, including cricket and sex.

The eighth World Cup has concluded. But just like all great events, this too was marred by its share of scandals and controversies. Cricket is not only a game of runs and wickets. It also generates clashes, controversies and conflicts among players and playing nations which always leads to thrills and excitement.

K. R. Wadhwaney has compiled all these nuggets in his book.

The stories of delight and dismay have been very neatly interwoven. The book is a ‘must’ for every cricket follower worldwide.

Combining personal reflection, the author observes that the tournament, though well-organised, was plagued by more controversies than those witnessed in the 1996 Cup in the subcontinent. Wadhwaney is one of the most experienced sports journalists and has written a dozen books on different sports.
