India Beat’s England in Asia Cup Polo
(London, UK)
- India is celebrating its victory over England in the sport of kings
following Asia Cup Polo played June 30th at the Kirtlington Park Polo
Club in Oxfordshire. The closely contested match, sponsored by
MaharajahClub.net, concluded with an Indian victory of only half a
point when the final horn sounded. (INDIA: 5 ˝ -- ENGLAND: 5).
The Indian Team, made up of
Ajit Medtia, Raghav Raj Singh, Satnam Dhillon and Colin Dhillon
beat England Junior’s team which was made up of young polo players under
the age of 21. Team England included team mates Ed Magor, Eden Ormerod,
Ashley Rake and Ryan Pemble
The rainy and water logged field in Oxfordshire did nothing to stop both
English and Indian players from putting on an action packed display,
pushing their horses to the limit in a series of well executed offensive
charges. And
Satnam Dhillon
of Team India, named player of the match, put on one of his most
colourful performances to date.
“The success of the Indian Team was thrilling, but I was very impressed
with the young English players who displayed remarkable talent for a
young team,” said Imran Hassan, Marketing Director, MaharajahClub.net.
The Maharajah Ball was the perfect ending to an action packed day.
Celebrities from the worlds of sport, fashion and film mingled with
guests and enjoyed fine Asian cuisine and entertainment. Among the
celebrities who attended were
Kapil Dev (named the Indian Cricketer of the Century in 2002 for
captaining
India to their
Cricket World Cup in 1983);
Ajit Singh Medtia, captain of Asia Cup Polo’s Indian team; cricketer Ian
Salisbury; HPA Chief Executive David Woodd; Nikki Bedi; Raj Ghatak;
James Benning and from Sky One’s new hit TV show “Hot Air”, Syed Ahmed.
The event was part of
Celebrasian.co.uk, a series of events celebrating the very best in
Asian culture and lifestyle in Britain. Polo fit easily into the
programme of Asian events as it’s a sport that has been enjoyed in India
for hundreds of years.
