Ash splash

Aishwarya Rai is splashed across the Indian media as she does the country proud to be the Indian film representative at the Cannes Film Festival as jury member. Speaking to the press, Ash said that it was an absolute honour to be in such esteemed company. She felt like a student who is keen to learn about cinema. On her return, Aishwarya Rai will begin to shoot for Rajkumar Santoshi’s Khakee. L’oreal has also signed her as ambassadress for their line of products. It is also reported that Ash will model Louis Vuitton handbags. What a way to go Ash!

Vivek Oberoi: All fire, no smoke!

Vivek Oberoi has a penchant for setting the screen on fire with his antics. But this time it’s all smoke (or no smoke, as in this case). Vivek is now joining forces with Urmila Matondkar to shoot an ad film against the use of tobacco. The film will be directed by Shaad Ali who has directed Vivek’s last hit ‘Saathiya’. The ad film will be aired in theatres and television channels, On which is ‘No Tobacco Day’.

Sanjay Suri: All geared up

For starters, Sanjay Suri is one of those happily married individuals! As for his career graph, it may not have shown any upward movement but Sanjay has got his fair share of the limelight. Though Meghna Gulzar’s Filhaal was a flop, Sanjay Suri’s performance in the film was highly appreciated. Even in Dil Vil Pyar Vyar, Sanjay left an impression. Now, he is excited about Jhankar Beats. He describes it thus: "The film is a ribtickling comedy. I haven’t done something like this before. The comedy is a situational one and not forced. That is what makes the film interesting." As generally known, problems over plagiarism and originality had brewed between the director of Jhankar Beats, Sujoy Ghosh, and Dil Vil Pyar Vyar producer, Vivek Vaswani. Each had accused the other of having robbed the other's story idea. Dil Vil Pyar Vyar flopped. Now what does destiny have in store for Jhankar Beats remains to be seen.

Karisma files a complaint!

After her television serial was mired by controversy, Karisma Kapoor herself has now filed a complaint against one of her directors. Apparently, the lady has not been paid her dues for Tinnu Verma’s ‘Baaz – A Bird in Danger’ and she has filed a complaint against the director with the Association of Motion Pictures and Television Programme Producers (AMPTPP). What goes around, comes around?

Everything new in Nayee Padosan

Nayee Padosan is a directorial debut for B. H. Tharunkumar who is well known in Bollywood as a choreographer. Most of the cast is practically new to Bollywood. Nitin Manmohan has dared to bring in new talent in this low budget film of around Rs. 2.5 crore and has completed the shooting in 45 days. The film is a complete riot where a new neighbour, Pooja, played by Mahek Chahal wooed by Vikaas Kalantri, Anuj Sawhney and Aslam Khan, three self-styled heroes. The wooing game involves Pooja and also her family as the three try to outdo each other. The epic wooing takes a sudden turn with the entry of Rahul Bhatt who is Pooja’s best friend. “I believe in entertainment for all," said Tharunkumar who is also working on the scripts of Beta Hindustani, Nai Dulhan and Nau Se Paanch. Referring to the latest trend of movies in Bollywood, Tharunkumar stressed that he is committed towards making family movies with U certification. Before beginning to shoot the film, it was acted out on the stage, which helped in speeding up the filming. The newcomers have a bright career according to Tharunkumar. Vikaas is starring in Iqbal Durrani’s film, Dukaan, with Rambha as his co-star. Mahek who has been modelling for brands like Kitkat, Castrol, Vatika Hair Oil and Bisleri too has a film in the pipeline, while Rahul Bhatt is already basking in the fame of Heena. With the industry finding a new lease of life with low-budget films like Haasil and Ishq Vishq clicking at the box office, there was a lot that was expected from Nayee Padosan. But the film sunk because Bhoot, Andaaz and Chalte Chalte were showing at the same time and attracted filmgoers with their heavy star cast.
