Does Congress have a game plan?
It is
unfortunate that at a time when a political outfit like Congress was
required to be at the helm of affairs the indications are that it might
be on its way out. Even more unfortunate is the fact that it does not
appear to have any game plan to get out of the present position. While
rising prices have put in it on the defensive the Finance Minister
appears to be totally taken a back by the turn of events. He has lost
his confidence and usually at loss for words and at other seems to be
praying for some providential help. On the political front most of the
Congress leaders seem to be working to safeguard their personal
interests thus it is very common to see them uniting to cut popular
leaders to size. Actually immediate and major surgery can only save
Congress from extinction. The sooner, the better.

Death Stalks India’s Roads
You have
brought to light an issue that should be of utmost importance to all
citizens. We usually do not bother about what it is happening on the
roads. It is only when we have first hand experience of the enormity of
the tragedy that the prevalent road culture breeds that we are worried.
Both the condition of the roads and driving need drastic improvement or
else we will continue to have unnecessary deaths. There is need to be
uncompromising when issuance of driving licenses and road worthiness of
the vehicles is concerned. In case of under age drivers their parents
and guardians should be held responsible and accordingly punished. It
needs to be understood that negligent driver not only risks his own life
but also that of others.

Rajasthan: Unwanted agitation brutal response
The
agitation by the Gurjars for scheduled tribe status was unwanted and you
have rightly condemned the brutal response of the State government. But
what has happened at the conference table is something that needs to be
condemned in the strongest possible words. The solution is blatantly
illegal and is not going to stand even one hearing in the Supreme Court
and yet both the leaders of the agitation and the government have
expressed great happiness. Obviously they are either too ignorant or
they have united to befool the ordinary Gurjars of the state. If this is
the case then their hands are covered with the blood of the trusting and
innocent people who gave their lives for a cause. This indeed is a
criminal act and they should be charged with the murder of those people.

The bell tolls for one day games
You have
rightly pointed out that the success of the IPL Twenty 20 augurs ill for
the one day cricket. However, let me say that no tears be shed at its
demise as it was a product of the commercial needs of the time and since
those needs have been replaced by others therefore the product too has
to change. The good thing about the whole change over is that just as
the one day cricket brought about urgency in the Test cricket, Twenty 20
too would act as a catalyst for the Test cricket and it would become
more exciting with the technological innovations. It should be presumed
that probably it will ultimately result in cutting the duration of the
Test match to four days with no team playing more than 90 overs in an
innings.
