Going
through difficult times
These are not the best of times. Political uncertainty makes
it worse but what needs to be lamented is the fact that
because of the obduracy of the Left and self centered view of
the BJP the country is missing out on an opportunity that has
the potential of bailing it out of the impending energy
crisis. Let us make no mistake about the magnitude of the
crisis. As it is the country is turning out to be an economic
power on paper only. It has the potential to be one but all
its efforts and plans flounder in the face of non availability
of energy. All experts agree that nuclear energy is the only
solution and that if China is forging ahead and occupying a
place that equally belongs to India then, as the bard said,
‘the fault lies in us, not in our stars’. It is in this
context that Dr. Manmohan Singh is frustrated as a Prime
Minister. He is no run of the mill politician and he believes
that if he has become the Prime Minister then there has to be
a purpose. This surely is to firmly lead towards the great
goal of making India an economic super power. Adding to his
woes is the fact that prices are spiraling beyond control and
this is happening when we live in the shadow of elections.
Politicians are jittery at such times even when the going is
good; with rising prices they give them the nightmares. These
are also not happy times for ordinary citizens and not just
because their budgets are no longer manageable. Whether it is
a desperate suicide of a rape victim in Haryana or the tardy
murder investigation in the Noida double murder case ordinary
citizens are finding it hard to pursue their lives peacefully.
The handling of the Noida double murder by police shall
continue to haunt the police as well as the citizens. While
the UP police destroyed any claim that it might have on
sensitivity the CBI has been going in circles and only
replacing third degree methods with unreliable and legally
inadmissible tests. What a pity! |
