Manisha: Sitting on another hit?
After the success of the controversial Ek Chhotisi Love Story,
Manisha’s riding on cloud nine. The actress’ next film Escape
From Taliban looks all set to repeat her fabulous run at the
box-office. If the buzz line is to be believed, people who have seen
promos of the film, are quite excited about its prospects. This time
you need not expect a tall tale (read controversy) though - we hear
the film’s based on a true story this time! The producers, Ashok
Khemka and Vijay Nopany, themselves are quite upbeat about the
film’s performance. In fact, they’re so confident that they’ve
already approached none other than Amitabh Bachchan for their next
film! Now that’s what we call a tall order! |

Shahrukh says "Main Hoon Na".
While on Shahrukh, Main Hoon Na is one of the movies he
has started working on after the success of Devdas, The movie
is said to be choreographer Farah Khan´s directorial debut. The buzz
now is that Shahrukh will play a teacher in the movie, with a
difference. If it can be recalled, Shahrukh played a music teacher
in Aditya Chopra´s Mohabbatien.
The movie will have Susmitha Sen paired up with Shahrukh for the
first time. The movie also stars Zayed Khan and Amrita Rao.

Lisa Ray: In Or Out?
Lisa Ray has just recieved rave reviews for her work in Deepa
Mehta´s just released Bollywood Hollywood. The Canadian model
who debuted in Vikram Bhatt´s Kasoor (and recieved a mixed
response) has been pleasing critics all over the world. So it would
be no surprise then for us to look forward to her next release.
However, that itself is a big question. After Kasoor the
actress commented that she wasn´t sure if she would do any more
Bollywood films, which is why her departure from Kaante
wasn´t a surprise and her addittion to Aishwarya Rai´s maiden
venture Dil Ka Rishta was one. However, her role in the film
forever remained a mystery, and when the promos by Tips began
releasing Isha Koppikar´s name and not Lisa Ray´s her inclusion in
the film remained a mystery. While no information has been revealed
regarding her role in the film, according to sources she still is
very much a part of Dil Ka Rishta. Dil Ka Rishta
co-stars Arjun Rampal, Raakhee and Priyanshu and is scheduled for a
release this month. |

Arjun Rampal: Doing a ‘Special Act’
for ‘Tehzeeb’
Well, it’s not like our
dashing Rampal can’t boast of meaty roles that will give him room to
act, emote and flex his bulging biceps. But he’s simply following a
trend of sorts. If the hottest in tinsel town like the King Khan and
Ash are doing come-flash-n-go roles, what can stop Arjun, who is
still in the ‘new league’ bracket of filmdom. It seems he has been
roped in to do a special appearance for a woman-oriented film titled
Tehzeeb, starring Shabana Azmi, Urmila Matondkar and Diya
Mirza. In fact Tabu, known for her power-packed performance in
women-centric films was supposed to do Urmila’s role, but due to
date hassles, Urmi-baby willingly slipped in to Tabu’s shoes. Now
that’s anyways an awe-inspiring star cast…and with hunky Rampal
adding on, it will simply be a delectable accompaniment - like
champagne and cheese! |

Sonu Nigam: Another Akshay Kumar?
He’s just one film old (if you can say that after Jaani Dushman’),
and Sonu is already following in Akshay’s footsteps. By that we
don’t mean he’s climbing up the numbers ladder. What he’s actually
doing, are his own stunts in his next film, TP Aggarwal’s Love in
Nepal. And his leading lady, Fllora, inspired by her man is
right behind him. While shooting a rafting sequence near Pokhra in
Nepal, the two decided not to opt for their doubles and do the
dangerous sequence themselves. Unfortunately, they slipped and fell
into the river and would have drowned, but for the locals and unit
members who managed to save them. I’m sure they’ll come to
appreciate the likes of Akshay Kumar better after that incident! |

‘Devdas’ does India proud
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum-opus Devdas has
done India proud. 2002 was not a particularly brilliant year for
Bollywood, though it has set records in terms of the highest number
of Indian screenings to have hit international shores. Although the
monies haven’t been realised, it’s only Devdas that has
managed to impress International audiences. Well, we hope 2003 is a
more positive year for Indian cinema, where the industry actually
receives its return on investments and accolades for superior
quality work in its respective field. We keep our fingers crossed.
