2ND GREEN REVOLUTION ON RIGHT PATH : ASSOCHAM
The Associated Chambers of Commerce
and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) shares the stress laid in the Economic
Survey 2007-08 for Second Green Revolution to enhance agri production
particularly in rain fed areas as it projects agriculture growth at 2.6%
during current fiscal which was 3.8% in 2006-07.
In a statement issued here, the
ASSOCHAM President, Mr. Venugopal N. Dhoot said that the Chamber equally
shares concerns expressed in the survey over slowdown in consumer goods
segment of industry and infrastructure constraints with the hope that
these would be gradually well attended to so that India achieves the
projected growth rate of 9% for 11th plan period.
Mr. Dhoot added that good things have
also happened in the Indian economy particularly trade to GDP ratio
increased from 22.5% in 2000-01 to 34.18% in 2006-07 and central
governmental expenditure on social services including rural development
in total expenditure (plan & non-plan) increased from 10.97% in 2001-02
to 16.42% in 2007-08.
