Rajasthan Electronics and Instruments Limited (REIL) was established in 1981 with its headquarters at Jaipur. The Ministry of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, through Instrumentation Limited, Kota, and Rajasthan State Industrial & Investment Corporation Limited (RIICO) jointly promoted the company with 51% and 49% shareholding, respectively.

The Company was conferred the status of "Mini Ratna" by the Department of Public Enterprises in 1997, on account of continuous profitable operations and good all-round performance. The company’s operation management system is in conformance with ISO 9001:2000 quality standards. The Ministry of Information Technology (MoIT) awarded the company with the Excellence in Electronics award in 2001 and earlier in 1991. The company was also awarded the First prize by Indian Dairy Association for Dairy Instrumentation in 2000. REIL received the prestigious "National Award for In-house R&D Efforts" from Department of Scientific & Industrial Research (DSIR) in November 2004.

REIL started manufacturing electronic milk tester (EMT) in 1982 as per National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) design and specifications, using technology licensed from Foss Electric, Denmark.

The use of EMTs at the village milk collection centres for measurement of fat content in milk, attracted large membership of the village level co-operatives, resulting in increased milk collection. This steep increase was because our dairy farmers felt that the EMTs provided a transparent mechanism for measurement of the Fat content in the milk. REIL today has a whole range of products to meet the requirements of a small village milk co-operative society to a district level dairy plant. The important products includes the Electronic Milk Tester, Auto Zero Electronic Milk Tester, Data Processor Milk Collection Station, PC based Milk Collection Station, Society Accounts Manage-ment System, Solid Non-Fat Tester, Milko-Scan and Raw Milk Reception Dock Automation System. The company has deployed about 50,000 EMTs, 3000 Milk collection Stations and 2000 of other related products over the past two decades. REIL has exported its products to countries like United Kingdom, Denmark, Russia, Japan, Nigeria, West Indies, Peru, Thailand, Indonesia, Iran, Bangla Desh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The company’s information technology department develops the software required by its various departments and is also engaged in providing turnkey solutions to outside customers by providing customised software solutions.  The software products include PC-Milk Collection Station, Society Accounts Management System and the Raw Milk Reception Dock Automation System, REIL, under the leadership of M.M. Bhardwaj as Managing Director, has grown from strength to strength and has an impressive record of improved performance and efficiencies. The company has achieved a CAGR of 16% from the period 1996 to 2004. The company has grown from Rs. 1700 lakhs to Rs 5500 lakhs, in a span of 8 years, under his leadership and guidance.  The net worth of the company stood at Rs. 759 lakhs at the end of March 2004 as compared to Rs. 353 lakhs in 1995-1996.
