60,214 MW Power Projects under
construction

Minister, Shri Sushilkumar Shinde said that power projects to the tune
of 60,214 MW were already under construction while in the 11th Plan
during the period April, 2007 to January, 2008 a total of 7263 MW has
already been added. Interacting with the Media at a Press Meet here the
Minister said that 56,722MW capacity addition has taken place during the
last three Plans. The Capacity Addition during the 8th Plan was 16,423
MW and in the 9th Plan it was 19,119MW while in the 10th Plan it was
21,180 MW.
On the power scenario in
the country, the Minister said that the current installed capacity is
over 1,40,300 MW comprising of 90,645 MW Thermal (64.7%),34,681 MW Hydro
(24.7%), 4120 MW Nuclear (2.9%) 10,855 MW Renewable (7.7%). He said that
for the 11th Plan 78,577 MW has been proposed for capacity addition. In
addition 14,000 MW is expected through Renewables and another 12,000 MW
from captive route. Shri Shinde said that orders for machinery of
projects to the tune of 10,950 MW will be placed by the end of March
2008.
The total generation of
electricity in the country during the current year (April to December
2007) was 526 billion units, as compared to about 493 billion units
during the corresponding period last year, an increase of 6.6%.
The Plant Load Factor (PLF)
of thermal power stations in the country during April to December 2007
was 77.2% compared to 75.3% during the previous year. The PLF of central
sector generating stations during the current year increased from 82.3 %
last year to 85.4% this year.
