TEAM INDIA LAUNCHES A UNIQUE BOOK

India’s first ever work of fiction around the subject of AIDS released by the team prior to the 3rd Cricket Test in Bangalore

Bangalore: It was truly a match of a different kind as Team India launched “ Viral Match”, a work of fiction on the subject of AIDS and HIV, by Rajesh Khullar (IAS) and published by Rupa &Co, before the start of the third and final Test match between India and Pakistan at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. Living up to their reputation of being icons and role models for the country’s youth, the Men in Blue lead by Captain Anil Kumble unveiled the first ever work of fiction “ Viral Match” based on the theme of HIV and AIDS and the ravages caused by it to human relationships especially between spouses.

The Indian cricketers and BCCI have on many occasions demonstrated relentless support for the cause of HIV and AIDS awareness and the release today is a further affirmation of their support to the cause and participation in the process of educating people on the issue. Accurate knowledge is the only insulation for the youth against the dangers of this deadly disease and people the world over have been exploring different mediums to spread the message. Rajesh Khullar, a career civil servant, has registered a first by successfully exploring the medium of a novel to educate readers on the subject of AIDS and HIV, in a work of fiction.

Viral Match is a fast-paced mystery about a married couple who are who get caught in the vicious world of HIV/AIDS. Thus not only does their world seemed to fall apart but also they are reduced to suspecting each other to such an extent that love is replaced by venom. Both husband and wife are then on their own course of discovering whom among them is guilty of bringing the AIDS virus home. The novel is racy and has the ingredients of suspense-thriller that keeps the reader enthralled till the last pages when the bonds of human relationship are reaffirmed.

Rajesh Khullar is an IAS officer of the 1988 batch. He is borne on the Haryana Cadre and is posted as Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Faridabad.
