Pakistan: The end game?
There is little doubt that
Pakistan is once again passing through a crisis. Like all dictators
President General (Retd.) Pervez Musharraf believes that without him his
country would face disaster. In the process he forgets that during the
eight years that he has been in power he has repeatedly betrayed his
people by going back on his words of restoring democracy and
Constitution. He has survived for this long because of the mistaken
belief of the Americans that he is the only person in Pakistan who can
successfully fight terrorism. Today he stands exposed on that count too.
Terrorism has flourished in Pakistan and Osama Bin Laden continues to
find sanctuary in Pakistan. The truth is that he stands totally exposed
and it is a matter of time now before he is consigned to the dustbin of
history.

India’s
dalliance with NATO
It is difficult to appreciate
the concern expressed by many over India’s growing relationship with the
west including NATO. If we look at what has happened in Europe one can
see that a number of countries of the now defunct Soviet Union are keen
to join not only the European Union but also the NATO. The threat that a
number of countries, including India, face today is common to NATO
countries. It is only in the fitness of things that India respond to the
overtures of those that might be helpful in warding threat to it. It is
futile to go on harping on carrying out relations that are only of
sentimental value to those who have been brought up on the heavy dose of
anti-Americanism.

.Dravid
the blue chip!
The treatment meted out to
Rahul Dravid has been shocking indeed. One might well ask Dilip
Vengsarkar and Co how they would have treated him if he had not resigned
from captaincy. It is apparent that there is more than meets the eye.
Personal egos have once again played a role to the loss of the game. We
keep forgetting that we have very few genuine heroes and that Rahul
Dravid is one of them. Over the years he has been a role model and
donned any role that the team has demanded of him. Such heroes should be
treated with dignity and honor and not in the manner in which the Indian
selectors have done. They have done grave injustice to a true blue chip
and therefore deserve all the disdain and condemnation that is being
heaped upon them.

BJP
skating on thin ice
Rarely has a political party
been such a disappointment as BJP has been. A decade ago people had
genuinely believed that it was a party with a difference and that its
rise to power will make a qualitative difference to the polity of our
country. The few years in power have demonstrated that their presence
has only aggravated matters. From Gujarat to Uttar Pradesh, it has taken
unprincipled stands and when it comes to the national scene, its stand
on the nuclear deal with America displays a petulance that ill behooves
a national party. On communal matters too it is taking divisive stands
in which the ultimate loser will be the great composite culture of
India.
