ILNA: New Office-Bearers Elected

The 62nd Annual General Meeting of the Indian Languages Newspapers Association (ILNA) for the year 2002-03 was held on July 30 at The Taj Hotel, Mumbai.

Addressing the members, outgoing ILNA President R. Lakshmipathy said that ILNA is proud of having rendered 62 years of service to Indian language newspapers. He stated that ILNA with its full-fledged office is set to serve its members in a better way. Inaugurating www.ilnaindia.org, the official website of ILNA, Lakshmipathy said that the new technology will certainly help members to communicate better which will ultimately help them in reducing the cost of publication. He thanked Shravan Kasyap for creating the website.

The executive meeting of ILNA unanimously elected Kundan Vyas, Chief Editor of Janmabhoomi, President of the Indian Languages Newspapers Association (ILNA). Other unanimously elected office bearers for 2003-04 are:

VICE PRESIDENTS: Sunil Dang, Rajdhani Times, V. K. Chopra, Gavakari GENERAL SECRETARIES: Chetanya Kumar Kasyap, Chetna (H.O.);Krishna C. Shewdikar, Shramik Ek Joot, Pushpa Sharma, Sach Ki Parchaiyan.

TREASURER: Pradeep Deshpande, Tarun Bharat (Belgaum)

For the first time three members tied—M. B. Wani, Sheetla Singh and Manorama Mohapatra. On the basis of a lottery M. B. Wani was elected. Last year, M. B. Wani tied with Lalit Shrimal and lost. Surprisingly, last time loser Anil Agarwal received the highest votes.
