Neither Bakra Nor Semi
Are These Cyrus
Irrespective of their class, all the
Bakras ultimately end up laughing at themselves and life in general;
as for the Semi Gerebal show it is hilarious take off on the hugely
successful Simi Grewal’s Rendezvous. Come let us share some of
their thoughts about life in general.
Cyrus
Broacha is an Mtv VJ.
He is famous as a stand-up comedian and prankster. He made his debut at
14 in an Indian version of Neil Simon Brighton Memoirs. After he
graduated, Cyrus went to the Lee Strasberg Acting Studio in New York
where he studied acting.
After
coming back to India, he acted in many commercials, television serials
and plays. His candid-camera show "MTV Bakra" on MTV India was an
instant success gaining popularity across the regions.
Cyrus
Sahukar is a Mtv VJ
from Delhi. He is a St. Columbus pass out. He is quite famous for his
hilarious version of Rendezvous with Simi Garewal. Its called Semi
Gerebal.
He
also had a brief stint with big screen in the Box Office hit Rang de
Basanti.
In an exclusive
tête-à-tête with The Day After the duo of Cyrus’ had
a lot to share about their experiences and aspirations.
The DayAfter: Do you get conscious in front
of camera?
Cyrus Sahukar: I am comfortable with camera.
Cyrus Brochoa: I still get quite conscious
in front of the camera. I get nervous before all my programmes. But yes
I am quite confident now.
DA: Who was the man behind the idea of ‘bakra?’
CB: There was a man called Romton Dalmiya.
He himself had a very tragic life. And this was his idea to cheer
others.
DA: With media getting so vigilant, do you
feel saying anything in public can be misquoted?
CS Yes, we are much more conscious these
days before uttering a single word. You never know when you will be
quoted or, to be more specific, misquoted.
DA: What do you think are the qualities
required to be a VJ?
Both CS and CB: First and most important
quality required is common sense which you know is not very common these
days. But yes contacts especially the right one always helps. It always
helps if you are well informed.
DA: Do you agree with the message portrayed
by Rang de Basanti?
CB: Do you know that Rang de Basanti
is a somewhat copycat of an English documentary called Jesus of Montreal
made in 1990? Except a few, none pointed this out. The performances were
incredibly good.
CS: What I feel is every piece of art is an
inspiration from something or the other. Rang De Basanti though
could not make it to the Oscars but I still believe that it is one of
the best output of Hindi film Industry, everybody in the film did a
brilliant work.
DA: Did you vote in the recently concluded
BMC(Bombay Municipal Corporation) elections?
CB: Yes, look (showing his middle finger). I
am a responsible citizen.
CS: Since I belong to Delhi, I did not vote
for Mumbai elections. But I am conscious about my responsibilities and
willing to contribute my bit in the progress of the nation.
DA: What are your future plans?
CS: I have lots of ideas, I want to make
films. Maybe down the line I will be a director.
CB: I want to take a break and look after my
family, I want to spend quality time with kids and besides I would not
rule out chances of my joining politics.
DA: What is your message for the
youngsters?
CB and CS: Keep your eyes and mind open.
Don’t hesitate in asking questions, even to your teachers. Don’t allow
yourself to be influenced by unwanted elements. And stand by whatever
you feel is right. |
