No lobby against Lakshya except saleable gossips: Akhtar

JAVED Akhtar is a man of multi-facet. As a script writer Akhtar has given us the angry young man and as a lyricist he has re-defined the concept of lyrics in Bollywood, blending classy poetry with modern aspects, without compromising on quality.

Incidentally, many things have happened in the Akhtar family in the recent past. When the correspondent of The Day After reached him for an interview, the confident and composed Akhtar allowed him to share some of his delicate thoughts for sometime. Following are the experts of the deatailed interview:

Can you tell me something about Zoya Akhtar´s Nargis?

Akhtar: First of all, let me make it clear that Zoya´s film is not called Nargis. I don´t know where and how this name emerged from.

We have heard that Madhuri Dixit won’t be a part of the movie, what is the progress as far as the movie is concerned?

Yes, Madhuri Dixit has become too busy of late and won´t be a part of Zoya´s film but the project is very much on and no one has yet been finalised for the lead. Fans can expect something concrete about the project by the end of this year.

Is Farhan´s Lakshya releasing on June 11?

Yes, Lakshya is definitely releasing in June.

A lot has been said about Farhan Akhtar´s showdown with Amitabh Bachchan on the sets of Lakshya in Laddakh.

Can you let us know the facts?

It is something that is just not possible; there is no question of it happening, especially since all of these kids, Abhishek, Farhan and others involved in the film have grown up together and it is really like one big family. In fact, during the recent Holi bash at Amitabh´s residence, I was not in Bombay and could not make it, but Farhan was present there. It is just the imagination of a fertile mind. It´s not that I have come to know Amitabh recently. I´ve known him from the time he came to Bombay.

Do you think there are lobbies working against Lakshya? There are rumours that portions of the film being re-shot and it is like a typical war film a la LoC-Kargil?

I don´t think that there are any lobbies working against the movie but you see people have to circulate (saleable) gossip. As far as Lakshya is concerned, it has war as a backdrop and is more about the young man in the film (Hrithik Roshan). Of late, I have concentrated on lyrics and kept away from scripting but Lakshya is the first movie for which I have done the script and dialogues.

Karisma settles in her new role with elan

Karisma Kapoor’s small screen charisma hasn’t quite translated into scorching TRPs for Karishma – The Miracles of Destiny (Sahara Manoranjan) but she’s not worrying at all.Marriage has certainly worked wonders for Karisma who’s completely unruffled by mundane things like TRPs and box-office ratings and only works for "creative satisfaction" because, as she insists she’s in a position to "pick and choose" her roles. She is also trying to cook. "I want to learn it when I have time and rustle up an innovative dinner," but childhood friend-husband Sunjay Kapur is "extremely understanding. He never makes any demands and doesn’t expect me to sit at home and cook." In fact, Karisma admits that without her husband and in-laws's support, she wouldn’t have been able to continue acting. They’ve understood my love for acting.

The smell of greasepaint is something I’ve grown up with and if you’ve been doing something for 14 years then it’s tough to give it up." Shuttling between Mumbai and Delhi can be easy if you "balance your time well. I live in Mumbai 15 days a month, although I sometimes travel to Hyderabad and Chennai to complete my film commitments (Zamanat and Mere Jeevan Saathi). So far I’ve managed to straddle both my lives with ease."

Delhi is a city she’s particularly fond of: "I’ve got family here and I love it. Delhi has its own charm, warm people, open spaces, greenery and amazing street food. Actually life’s perfect now and I don’t want too much from it now.

Booked for a cause: Vivek Oberoi

Vivek Oberoi has decided to bear the cost of his guru, Kishore Namit Kapoor’s book on acting, for all those wannabe actors who can’t afford it.

Tusshar is on cloud nine these days, and not without reason. Although his Yeh Dil bombed all over the country when it was released in February last year, it has gone on to celebrate golden jubilee in at least one theatre in Mumbai.
The love story, a remake of a Telugu blockbuster, was rejected by audiences but loved in a distant Mumbai suburb, Bhiwandi. They seemed to have simply adored the Tusshar-Anita (Natassha) starrer.
That’s the reason for the film celebrating golden jubilee in the suburban cinema
