Is There
Any Cure For Corruption?
|
|
Are
we a dead society? We hear about corruption, we talk about
corruption, we read about corruption and shake our heads. But
we never do anything about it. Excuse me, I am not pointing an
accusing finger at any one person. The question every one of
us must ask, seriously and honestly, is: Is there any cure for
corruption?
I keep asking
myself: like war and communal and social conflicts, is
corruption too first born in the minds of men? Even if I have
a corrupt mind, do I accept corruption without questioning,
without protest? Do I compromise rather than combat
corruption? If I accept corruption as a part of my environment
and daily life, does not that make me a collaborator with
corruption.
Have I at
least murmured my opposition to the daily corruption that I
come across? Am I a coward who does not have the guts even to
signify my dissent to this continous monstrosity?
When I read of
high police officials being caught and tried for murder, rape
and torture, does it register any revulsion in my mind? When
Income Tax high-ups are caught for bribery,
do I have the
feeling of some satisfaction? If not, why not? Am I dead?
Please, if you
feel like, ask yourself the question about corruption which I
am asking myself. Let us assert that we are not dead. Send me
your angered responses. At least, we can make a beginning by
learning to have the courage to see and identify corruption
and protest against it. Corruption is like HIV, for which the
Americans have found a cure. Can we find a cure for this
disease which is worse than HIV?
