But
In Uttar Pradesh, where the much publicised domination of male bosses
of politics of the BJP, Socialist and the Sangh Parivar variety is
being challenged, defied and decimated by the tough rule of Behen
Mayawati, the male reaction to women's empowerment seems to be
radically different. The male bastions are falling before the Maya
march, one after another. Ideology, honesty, loyalty and even
self-respect of the male politicos of U.P. seems to be on sale like a
devalued consumer product and Maya Behen is the chief customer. She
has bought out many and threatens to buy more. Even the so called
unassailable citadel of Mulayam Singh and Amar Singh seems to be under
invasion, making the Socialist Party leaders groan and grumble that
what man can do, woman can do much worse. Of course it is a negative
version of the favourite feminine slogan: 'what men can do, women can
do much better. With or without the blessings of the male high and
mighty, Maya is steam-rolling her own path to an unforgettable place
in the political history of Uttar Pradesh. Can anyone stop her? |
