IRONY

The Kashmiri Pandits that were gunned down by militants in Pulwama in cold blood were guilty of only trying to live like free men in the land of their birth. In Iraq, the people are being killed by U.S. troops for wanting to live likewise. Isn't it ironical?

The most ridiculous war

Sunil Dang, Chief EditorThere have been honest wars and dishonest   wars. There have been direct wars and proxy wars. There have been open wars and secret wars. There have been  offensive  wars  and defensive wars. But  there has  never  been a war like the  unilateral invasion of  Iraq by the  United  States military forces in     collaboration with  their "allies", the British military contingents led by Prime Minister Tony Blair of Britain. To me, it seems to be the most ridiculous and pointless war in history. The reason for launching the war given by President George Bush Junior and his distinguished advisors is that Saddam Hussain did not comply with the U. N. resolution regarding disclosure and destruction of weapons of mass destruction. But did the U. S. A. have the time and patience to comply with the U. N. resolution, and appeals from important U. N. members to hold its guns and find a peaceful solution to the problem which America hugged so close to its heart?

It is odd behaviour indeed that a democratic country in its own interpretation of democracy, or at least in the personal interpretation of its President, considers it a justified act of war with the precondition that either the sovereign ruler of that other country leave his country and crown or face war to make way for a "ruler" of the invader's choice? Can the leaders of the world accept this logic? I think even American public opinion will find it hard to swallow this line of argument. By one single act of aggression. the United States President has shown the world that the United Nations is irrelevant and that on the global scale, democracy is not a commodity to serve the "vital interests" of the United States like grabbing other people's oil, assets and even lives. I am sorry, I cannot swallow it. Can you, dear reader?
