The Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati has appointed her controversial brother Anand Kumar, who hit the headlines during demonetization, as the party vice president with a condition that he would never become a member parliament or the chief minister.

“I announce my brother Anand Kumar as the party’s national vice president with the condition that he will never become MP, MLA, minister of chief minister,” she said at a meeting of her party workers.

BSP chief Mayawati’s successor has always been a subject of speculation, however, her family came into focus when her brother started attending party’s leadership meetings. Anand Kumar’s elevation in the party comes at a time when firms linked to him are being examined by the Income Tax department
