Giving huge embarassment to Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken, former Congress councilor Anand Gautam joined Yogendra Yadav’s Swaraj Abhiyan on April 12th in New Delhi. Both Yadav and his co-founder and noted advocate Prashant Bhushan hailed Gautam’s decision and granted him ticket from the Hauz Khas ward in South Delhi Municipal council.
The former Congress councilor had initially filed his nomination as an independent candidate from ward no 62S, a seat where a Swaraj India candidate had also filed nomination, but his papers got rejected. Gautam, who was initially denied municipal candidature from the Delhi Congress party chief Ajay Maken, then approached Swaraj Abhiyan and both decided to join hands to pare the ground they lost earlier. Elections to the 272 seats of the Delhi MCD Polls spanning all three civic bodies — North Delhi, East Delhi and South Delhi municipal corporations — will be held on April 23.
